What these tests measure

The PHQ-9 and PHQ-2 ask about symptoms over the last two weeks and are common in doctors' offices. The CES-D was developed for research on depressive symptoms in the general population. The Geriatric Depression Scale is designed for older adults, and the DASS-21 measures depression alongside anxiety and stress.

A screening result describes recent symptoms. It does not tell you the cause, and it is not a diagnosis of major depressive disorder.

Who it is for

Adults who have felt low, flat or exhausted and want to understand their symptoms, and anyone who wants a starting point for a conversation with a doctor or therapist.

How to use your result

Your score is a snapshot of how you have been feeling or behaving recently. It is meant for self-reflection, education and research and is not a diagnosis or medical advice. Where a scale has no published norm entered on PsiQ, we do not invent one, so you will see raw scores rather than made-up percentiles.

If you are struggling: please talk to a doctor or a qualified mental-health professional. In India you can call Tele-MANAS at 14416, a free government mental-health helpline. If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.
